Fun-filled Spring Gathering to Celebrate the Year of the Pig
Hosted by the Faculty of Science, nearly 140 guests, Faculty members, alumni, students and friends attended the annual Spring Gathering in celebration of the Year of the Pig on 23 February 2019 at Shaw Campus of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU).

This year, the guests of honor included: Professor Ng Ching-fai, former President and former Dean of Science of HKBU; the Honorable Charles Peter Mok, Legislative Councillor (Information Technology), Legislative Council of HKSAR Government; Professor Tong Chong-sze, Vice President (Administration and Development) of The Open University of Hong Kong; Dr Daniel Kwong, former Associate Dean of Science; Professor Ko Jan-ming, former Head of the Faculty’s Department of Civil Engineering; Mr Alan Wong, Chairman of Advisory Committee of the Faculty of Science; Mr Leung Ka-wing, Chairman of Steering Committee on Alumni Relations of the Faculty of Science; and Mr Alex Leung, President of HKBU Alumni Association. Senior management of the University included: Vice-President (Research and Development) Professor Rick Wong; Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) Dr Albert Chau; Associate Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) cum Academic Registrar Professor Ricky Wong; and Associate Vice-President (Engagement) Mr C K Yeung.
In the opening remarks, Professor Zhang Jianhua, Dean of Science updated the recent development of the Faculty and thanked the friends and alumni for their continued support to the alma mater and encouraged more alumni to participate in the pilot schemes of internship and mentorship initiated by the Faculty this year.
“I am most delighted to be invited again this year to join the Spring Gathering hosted by the Faculty of Science. It is a priceless for me to meet with so many alumni. I am really touched by their enthusiasm for maintaining close ties with their alma mater,” said Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President (Research and Development) of the University and also former Dean of Science.
The special programme of this year was by a group of science alumni and friends showing their musical talents in a live band performance which was the highlight of the afternoon and had elicited big applause.

In appreciation of the alumni’s staunch support to the Faculty’s events, awards of the Most Active Participation and the Most Great Leap Forward Participation Award were presented to alumni of Baptist Chemists and the Physics Alumni Association of HKBU respectively.

Participants had an enjoyable afternoon with their old buddies sharing their recent happenings. The atmosphere of the Gathering reached new heights when alumni took part in several interactive fun games and competed for the Best Dressed Award. This annual Gathering served as a valuable platform for strengthening Science Faculty’s community ties. The Faculty would like to extend sincere appreciation to the guests, alumni and friends for the continued support of the Faculty and their kindness in joining this memorable Gathering.
