Summer Internship Day connects Mathematics students, alumni and potential employers
Co-organized by the Alumni Association and Department of Mathematics, the first-ever Summer Internship Day was held on 16 May 2015 to boost the Department’s links with alumni, also industrial and corporate world and to provide an opportunity for graduating Mathematics students to meet with senior executives from renowned companies and organizations that could be their future employers. Close to 60 participants, including guests, Mathematics graduating students, alumni and staff attended the event.
In the welcoming remarks, Professor Michael Ng, Head of Mathematics Department, said the objectives of the occasion were three-folded: to thank employers for their past recruitment of HKBU Mathematics students, to build networks with Mathematics alumni from different sectors, to showcase the fine qualities of HKBU Mathematics students to the potential employers. Professor Ng encouraged students to use the occasion to explore the business world that they soon would be part of.
With the mission in leveraging alumni, department and industry together to enable a synergy of three communities was of paramount importance. Dr Alex Li, Vice-President of Mathematics Alumni Association, appreciated the support of alumni by offering internship opportunities for the companies they were working now in this Summer Internship Day. He valued much the participation and involvement of Mathematics alumni in many ways, in particular attending various alumni events to networking with current students, as well as offering summer internship opportunities for students so as to widen their horizons and apply what they have learnt in class to assigned internship organizations / companies.
Summer Internship Day is set to offer students a chance to network with senior alumni as well as employer representatives and discuss internship and professional career opportunities. Potential employers who attended the Student Internship Day were mainly from Hong Kong Science Park and Qianhai Enterprise Dream Park, including Bizonline, QWeUs Limited, Right Station, Avrio, SHOWMUSE, Hong Kong Pacific Network, GoLend, I-Music Tech and IMOHKCL.
